Overview

Tarangire is one of the best-known and most popular national parks of Tanzania’s northern circuit. On this one-day safari, you can immerse yourself in its magical scenery: savannah, dotted with mystical baobab trees and the majestic Tarangire River. The park’s large elephant population, iconic Baobab trees, and diversity of wildlife make it one of the best parks in the country for taking breathtaking photos or simply basking in the beauty of the world’s largest land mammals.

But you can also spot buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, warthogs and the beautiful waterbuck antelope. Your expert local guide will share many useful facts about the region’s wildlife. From the window seat and the pop-up roof of your 4×4 safari vehicle, you have the best view to take in this magical day.

Welcome to one of Africa's most underrated parks. Thanks to its proximity to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park is usually assigned only a day visit as part of a larger northern circuit itinerary. Yet it deserves much more, at least in the dry season (July to October). It's a place where elephants dot the plains like cattle, and where lion roars and zebra barks fill the night.

Itinerary

Start of our Tarangire Day Trip

Our journey starts early morning as we depart Arusha to Tarangire. Our highly credentialed driver-guide will pick you up at your residence/hotel and brief you on your safari. Your trip to Tarangire takes around 2 hours.

Morning Game Drive

The expected arrival is around 9 am, and we set sail to explore this magnificent wilderness. Tarangire has the highest density of elephants in North Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round; the herds can sometimes reach an impressive number of up to 300 animals. The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river to quench their thirst.

Picnic Lunch

Around mid-day, we set to find a great spot to have our picnic lunch. There are several spots to enjoy lunch while in the park, creating a sense of thrill.

Afternoon Game Drive

If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with little luck, you can also spot a python! This area is during the dry season also a haven for bird watchers with over 550 different species including the Masai Ostrich – the world’s largest bird. Around lunchtime, you will stop at a suitable picnic place before the afternoon is dedicated to more game drives and wildlife watching.

End of trip

Before sunset, you will be taken back to your hotel in Arusha.
