This City of Nairobi Tour takes you through Kenya's Capital City. A thriving modern capital, Nairobi is still the safari capital of Africa among the most interesting cities. A city with boundless energy, a place of great contrasts where race, tribe and origin all become facets of a unique Nairobi character.
The city has not lost its sense of the past, with an excellent museum and the historical home of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa, open to visitors.
This is not a modern capital separated from the great wilderness that surrounds it. Just outside the city is Nairobi National Park, 113 sq km of plains, cliffs and forest. The park is home to large herds of Zebra, Buffalo, Giraffe, Rhino, Cheetah, and many Lions are all found here, living wild within 20 minutes of the centre of town.
Let us take you to some of the great spots in Nairobi for wildlife encounters and learn history of the city and the nation at large.
Morning game drive at Nairobi National Park.
Nairobi is the only capital city in the world to host a wildlife park. It might be small compared to other wildlife jewels in Kenya like Maasai Mara and Amboseli, but it parks interesting wildlife and birdlife.
We will start this City of Nairobi Tour as we pick you up from your hotel/residence. You'll kickstart your morning game drive searching for the rhinos and lions and exploring other wildlife against towering capital buildings. Your game drive is a scheduled 2-hour drive heading to the best spots. Other wildlife that you might spot include buffaloes, impalas, giraffes, zebras, eland, hartebeest, waterbucks and baboons.
A short tour of Nairobi Animal Orphanage
Right next to Nairobi National Park is the Animal Orphanage. Home to orphaned wild animals, wildlife that are recuperating from the adverse effects of poaching and wildlife that need serious attention before being transferred back to the wild. Here, you'll get insights and knowledge regarding wildlife, how they live and interact and other interesting facts to appreciate our wildlife. Your short tour will start mid-morning, walk through the orphanage and have an opportunity to feed some lions and hyenas.
Visit the Magnificent David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage
This is a world-renowned wildlife orphanage with a focus on rehabilitating elephants and rhinos that have been affected by poaching, illness or young ones that are lost in the wild, with the end goal being getting them ready for the wild. This is an opportunity to understand the efforts made to save 2 wildlife species that are slowly reducing in numbers and facing extinction. You will also have an opportunity to feed the young elephants and rhinos and watch as they gracefully play in the mud. We've scheduled a visit for mid-morning as it will offer you great sightings as the animals will be active.
Later on, we will take you for lunch and some refreshments as we prepare for afternoon activities.
Close interaction with the Endangered Giraffes
The final activity of the day is a visit to the Nairobi Giraffe Center for an up close with the Rothschild Giraffe. Their population has seen a dramatic drop and such centres are set to help boost their population and have a clear understanding of their life.
Giraffes are majestic creatures and are always photo-ready. They have a sense of modelling as you can be more than certain you'll get a good picture. There's more to learn about giraffes and Giraffe Center offers some excellent knowledge on these creatures. You will spend your time learning and feeding them and if you get lucky, expect a "kiss" from them.
Afterwards, we will take you back to your residence, or your hotel or pickup point as we end this City of Nairobi Tour
