Maji Moto Eco Camp is set in the heart of a Maasai village on Loita Hills in the famous Maasai Mara. Nestled on a hilltop deep in Masai lands and overlooking vast savannah plains, Maji Moto Eco Camp is a small, environmentally-sensitive retreat. Operated by Masai people from the nearby village of Maji Moto, a stay here will immerse you not only in the intense natural beauty of the Loita Hills but also in the ancient culture and knowledge of the Masai. The Camp is sensitively managed by the local community and strikes just the right balance offering a reasonable level of comfort, a friendly welcome and an insight into the Masai way of life. This is a cultural experience and by its nature, it is not for everyone. Some of our clients love it and others less so. Generally, it suits those of a more outgoing nature who are very interested in learning about different cultures. Structures in the camp (kitchen, dining area, showers and toilets) are built Masai-style using only local materials such as branches and stalks, grass, cow dung and stone. There is no generator in the camp. Candles, lanterns and campfire are used for light in the evening. Small solar panels provide electricity for recharging cameras and mobile phones. Careful water usage in this dry ecosystem is very important. Toilets are long-drop designs to minimize waste water. Water for showers is brought by donkey from the natural hot spring in the village, so water heaters are not needed. read more read less
