Kenya is arguably one of the best destinations in Africa for a safari, evocative of a romantic and pioneering age. The Laikipia Plateau at the foot of Mount Kenya is a rewarding location, home to a large population of rhinos, a haven for the last Northern White Rhinos, and rare species of Zebras, giraffes and antelopes. Another destination covered here is Meru, consisting of an extraordinarily varied habitat - forest, plains and swamp, providing wildlife with excellent cover
Take a wildlife adventure through Central Kenya's most Iconic game parks; the pleasant Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Ol Jogi & Lewa Conservancy and Meru National Park.
These are select destinations that rival Maasai Mara and Serengeti for excellent all-year-round wildlife encounters. Mostly related to conservation efforts, these regions are home to some of the most endangered species including the black rhino, and Grevy’s Zebra, among others. It is also home to the largest population of elephants and the African Big Five. This area is rich in wildlife. It is much easier to spot a leopard in these regions, including a black panther.
This tour is a great alternative to the accustomed Mara & Serengeti, being more private and offering lots of activities including horse rides, camel trips, quad bikes and participating in local conservation programs.
Day 1: Discover the black rhinos haven at Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Here is a chance to explore Ol Pejeta Conservancy, famously known as it is home to the last remaining Northern White rhinos on earth. Explore this vast landscape and see its huge population of black rhinos. If you're after the Big Five, you won't be disappointed.
Your day starts early in the morning. You will be picked up by one of our representatives at the airport and be briefed on your safari and code of conduct. You'll be transferred to your hotel for breakfast and prepare to embark on the Ol Pejeta drive.
Expected arrival is around mid-morning, starting on your game drive. Key highlights of this safari are the chance to see the chimpanzee, and spot leopards, baboons, and elephants among others.
You will also have another game drive in the afternoon after lunch, continuing your safari exploring Ol Pejeta. You'll head back to your lodge in the evening for dinner and accommodation.
Thanks to The Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s private status it can offer the unique pleasure of night game drives, an activity not available in most national parks and reserves in Kenya. A night game drive offers visitors an opportunity to discover Ol Pejeta Conservancy 'after hours'.
With the help of a spotlight, the drives can produce some unusual sightings of nocturnal animals, including aardvarks, white-tailed mongooses, zorillas and even perhaps, bat-eared foxes. Lions, often sleeping during the day are often sighted alert and active at night, and even on occasion, the more elusive leopard. We recommend that you come dressed appropriately to keep warm.
Day 2: Huge diversity of mammals at Ol Jogi Conservancy
The landscape in which Ol Jogi is located is known for having the largest diversity of big mammals on the planet. Ol Jogi represents an important breeding ground for some of the most critically endangered species. Ol Jogi Private Wildlife Conservancy showcases the many splendours of northern Kenya: its wildlife, its landscape, and its people, making it one of the best destinations for the best safari experience.
Expect 2 game drives, one in the morning in the morning, another in the afternoon. After your game drives, you'll head back to the camp for dinner and accommodation.
Day 3: Black Rhino & Grevy's Zebra Conservation efforts at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Lewa serves as a safe refuge for the critically endangered black rhino and the endangered Grevy’s zebra, as well as the elephant, lion, giraffe, wild dog and other iconic wildlife species in Kenya.
Lewa showcases a variety of wild habitats including highland forests, wide open grasslands, melt-water mountain springs, and acacia woodland, and is home to over 440 bird species. Explore Lewa Conservancy with extensive 2 game drives.
Your day ends with a trip back to the camp for refreshments, dinner and accommodation.
Day 4: Exploring Meru National Park
The park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and over 350 species of birds. The park also features a variety of landscapes, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands. The park is also notable as the setting for the book and film “Born Free” which is based on the true story of George and Joy Adamson’s experiences raising an orphaned lion cub named Elsa. It is also home to the Murera and Ura Rivers which are known for their crocodiles and hippos. It’s a great place for a safari adventure and wildlife viewing. Lunch will always be served at the camp and game drives are twice daily.
After a great adventure, you'll head back to the camp for refreshments, dinner and accommodation.
Day 5: Visit the endangered Rothschild Giraffe in Nairobi
Have an early morning breakfast and later check out of the Lodge and depart for Nairobi. As you transit from the Mount Kenya region one of the Kenyan highlands the temperatures will tend to rise gradually and vegetation changes from freshly broad leaves to thick thin leaves.
